About
Hi, I’m Dr. Angela Hu.
I’m an integrative psychiatrist who believes in deep, personalized healing that honors both the science of psychiatry and the wisdom of the unconscious mind. My practice is rooted in the understanding that true transformation happens when we go beyond symptom management to explore the deeper layers of identity, emotion, and meaning.
Before becoming a psychiatrist, I was always drawn to creativity, introspection, and the unseen connections that shape our inner worlds. My work is influenced by my background in art, dreamwork, and meditation, which give me a deep appreciation for the non-linear, intuitive aspects of healing. I help patients navigate life’s complexities by integrating diverse therapeutic methods, from mindfulness and depth-oriented therapy to neurodivergent-affirming care and expressive arts.
My own personal journey toward emotional well-being has been a meaningful one. Practices like art journaling, meditation, and yoga have helped me grow through adversity, and guided me in cultivating resilience, self-awareness, and inner peace. These experiences not only helped me connect more deeply with myself, but also inspired my path to psychiatry. I know firsthand the value of navigating healing—not only as a psychiatrist but also as someone who has walked this path. This personal understanding allows me to offer compassionate, empathetic care to others on their own journeys to wellness.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Society. My early interest in how biological and societal factors influence health led me to pursue a Doctor of Medicine degree at Boston University School of Medicine, where I was involved in research on social determinants of health.
Driven by a desire to provide holistic care, I went on to complete my Psychiatry Residency at the University of California, Irvine, where I developed a deeper understanding of how mental health challenges can impact individuals and their communities. Through my residency, I developed expertise in psychiatric care for diverse populations, including those experiencing complex trauma, neurodivergence, and mood disorders. Since completing my training, I’ve worked with individuals from various backgrounds, including those in public health systems and academic settings.
Many of my patients are high-functioning professionals, creatives, or deep thinkers who feel stuck—overwhelmed by anxiety, lost in burnout, or disconnected from their sense of purpose. Others are navigating trauma, identity, or the challenges of being neurodivergent in a world that often misunderstands them. My goal is to provide a safe, thoughtful space where you can untangle these struggles, uncover your inner wisdom, and move toward a more fulfilling, authentic life.
Outside of my work, I’m a lifelong artist, birdwatcher, and practitioner of yoga and meditation. I find inspiration in the natural cycles of transformation—like the quiet unfolding of a bud into bloom. My practice reflects this ethos: honoring both the depth and renewal that come with growth and change.
I also have a spirited border collie rescue, named Ginger, who is equal parts shy and stubborn. It has been deeply meaningful to be able to work with her over the years in building her confidence and trust.
Living authentically and fully—with ease and inner peace—is a personal goal of mine and something I hope to help others achieve. Healing is not about becoming someone new but rather coming home to yourself— with greater self-acceptance, clarity, and freedom.
